Concert Days

Jan 20, 2021

I had a moment today on Instagram recently…..I know an Instagram moment seems unserious but God somehow spoke to me at that moment. I saw a post from Hillsong United about the release of their last concert at Madison Square Garden and it made me miss the days when I used to eagerly wait for the release dates of concerts of my favorite Christian artists. So I went down memory lane on my phone and shared some of my pre-covid concerts from 2019. I thoroughly enjoyed the exercise.

You see I really love concerts, I love the gathering of people together and I love the sound of corporate worship. Maybe a part of it is that in some way it is a slight reflection of what heaven will be like where we will all gather in one voice, all colors in the presence of our maker. I love the collective chants, the singing off-key, the wild moments of intense joy, the vibration of the room with praise, the tears, the many tears, the personal and intimate moments where God speaks, and quiet moments when we are held by him and can literally feel his embrace. I love it all, and really truly I miss it.

As I reached the end of the posts and I smiled to myself about how exciting those times were I felt God tell me in my heart that I don’t have to wait for those moments to have intense moments of worship. At that moment I felt an intense sense of gratefulness, grateful that God has given us His spirit, grateful that we don’t have to wait for a person to go before God for us but that we can hear him on our own, grateful that we don’t have to go to a specific place, building, or wait for a season and time of day to worship, grateful that we have full access to God and we can truly worship him as long as we do in spirit and truth. It’s such a blessing to know this truth and as I reminisce on those moments that I love and hope for again I am thankful that I get to have that moment with Him daily on a personal level.

Moral of the story today? Worship God where you are, He knows you, sees you, and wants to be with you.
